In occupied France toward the end of World War II, Col. Hans Landa, an expert at finding Jews in hiding, lets a teenage girl named Soshanna escape from a French farmhouse after killing her parents. She ends up owning a movie theatre in Paris where a Nazi hero falls for her. She has to keep her true identity a secret while keeping him at a distance. When the Nazi high command decides to premiere a film based on and staring the hero at the girl’s theatre it brings Col Landa back into her life and gives her an opportunity for revenge. Meanwhile, Lt. Aldo Raine puts together a group of Jewish-American soldiers to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by brutally killing and scalping Nazis. The British find out about the premiere and send an agent to find Raine’s group to use them to blow up the theatre full of the Nazi high command. The plan includes working with a French actress who is spying for the Allies to get them into the premiere. Things don’t go exactly as planned but when Hitler decides to attend the stakes get even higher. It all comes together in spectacular fashion for a very satisfying ending. The action is very good if a little graphic, the cast is perfect but it’s the writing that is amazing. There are scenes that are so real the tension will knock you out. This is one of Tarantino’s best films.
