Fox Wants 30 Day Delay for DVDs in Kiosks
According to a recent report in Video Business 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment want the delay on the availability of its DVD titles in $1-per-night rental kiosks like Redbox, despite a pending lawsuit between Redbox and another studio over delayed releases. Some studios are strongly opposed to the kiosks’ $1 pricing, and the large volume of used discs they create, both of which they believe undercut new DVD sales. Fox’s move follows a similar one by Universal Studios Home Entertainment, which would have limited the availability of the studio’s titles to 45 days after street date and required Redbox to destroy DVDs after their rental cycle. Redbox sued the studio on anti-trust grounds and the suit is still pending.

The Rock in a Remake Will Top Charts
Disney's "Race to Witch Mountain" leads the new releases this week. The remake stars Dwayne Johnson, who audience appeal made it a hit at the box office and should do the same for the DVD and Blu-ray release. Look for it to top the charts in most categories. The Robert Downey, Jr. and Jamie Foxx drama"The Soloist" also debuts this week but its appeal is limited.
Next Week Two Comedies Go Head-to-Head
Two comdies with completely different audiences make their debuts battling it out for first place. "I Love You, Man" and "17 Again" both did reasonably well at the box office that should translate to DVD and Blu-ray sales and rentals. And both films feature Thomas Lennon in a supporting role. We will see if Zac Efron can top the bromance of Paul Rudd and Jason Segel.
