This unique film tells the story of two women decades apart. After World War II, Julia Child moves to Paris with her diplomat husband where she is so bored she takes a hat making class. Eventually her husband suggests she take a cooking class, where she excels. When she can’t find a French cookbook written for Americans she teams with a pair of French writers to correct the situation. Meanwhile in 2002, Julie Powell is wasting away in a cubicle when all she wants to do is write. Her husband suggests she write a blog, she decides to cook her way through Julia Child’s French cookbook and blog about it. She sets out to cook every dish, over 500, in a year while writing about it. Both women go through highs and lows as they strive to achieve their goals. This is an incredibly well written film that is based on two books about the lives of real people. Meryl Streep makes you think she is Julia Child and the rest of the cast is perfect. It’s a film that is hard to explain, just know that it is funny, touching and you will leave the theatre feeling good.
