Kate and John already have a boy and a girl but after recently losing their third child they decide to adopt a girl. While at the home for girls John stumbles across a nine year old who is would rather stay in her room and paint than run around downstairs with the rest of the girls. Kate joins them and they bond with Esther because of her down-to-earth attitude and creative flair. Once they bring her home Esther appears to be the perfect child but she does have a couple of unusual habits. She always wears a ribbon around her neck and on her wrists and she insists on locking the bathroom door when she baths singing so Kate will know she’s okay. Things start to get a little creepy when a girl who tormented her at school has an accident at the playground. Before long Esther and Kate are at odds but John and their therapist side with Esther. I thought it was a typical ‘Bad See’ type of horror flick but then there is an astonishing unexpected twist. I never saw it coming. The twist transforms what would have been a ho-hum horror film into a surprisingly good one.
