Let the “Bayhem” begin. The Autobots have joined forces with Captain Lennox to form NEST, a multi-national military force based in Diego Garcia charged with hunting down any remaining Decepticons on Earth. In the opening battle they track down a couple of them hiding in China and the ensuing battle is spectacular but it brings a government oversight official right out of central casting. Like the first one it starts out with a great action battle sequence and then the so-called plot kicks in, the robots talk, the kid’s mother does stupid stuff, a lot of buildings get destroyed and it all goes brain dead. Oh, there a lot of new Transformers including two incredibly annoying and insulting ones known as the twins. They are so stereotypical they made me think fondly of Jar Jar Binks, did they have to say “We don’t read”? The less said about them the better. Somewhere in the annoying robots, the bad acting and the incredible CGI effects there is a slim plot most of which is stolen from Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and StarGate. All you need to know is that Megatron is back and he wants Sam’s brain to help him find an ancient weapon that will destroy the Sun and consequently Earth. Of course, he has to be stopped in the most violent and spectacular way. It is obvious director Michael Bay spent the $200+ million dollar budget on the special effects, they are spectacular, but it would have been nice if he had paid as much attention to the script and acting, both of which are sub-par even for his movies. If you liked the first one you’ll like this one because things continue to “blow up real good” and did I mention there are more than twice as many CGI Transformers?
