Andrew is the assistant to a powerful New York book editor, Margaret, who terrorizes her staff and torments him. He does everything he can to please her even drinking the exact same coffee just in case he spills hers. When she is told that she is being deported back to Canada losing her job she tells everyone that she and Andrew are getting married. The immigration official doesn’t buy it believing they are trying to defraud the country which would have dire consequences for both of them. Andrew decides to go along but only if she’ll meet a few conditions that will advance his career. Before you know it they are jetting to Alaska to break the news to his family while attending his grandmother’s 90th birthday party. Once they get there Margaret is completely out of her element but must go along with everything. To make matters worse Andrew is at odds with his father and the immigration official shows up just before their impromptu nuptials in a barn. This fish out of water story is fresh and witty until the last reel then it cops out and copies the ending from just about every rom-com every made. The cast is very good, there a few good laughs and the romance works – you could do worse.
