Walter Garber is working as a subway dispatcher in New York City when one of the trains does something weird. He calls the motorman only to be answered by an unknown man who claims to have hijacked the train with a group of heavily armed men and to be holding the passengers hostage. He identifies himself as Ryder and wants $10 million dollars in an hour or he will start killing one passenger every minute. He won’t talk to anyone except Garber, who has legal problems of his own, forcing the police and the mayor to defer to him. When things go wrong, as they are wont to do in movies, Garber has to deliver the money himself. Will it turn into a bloodbath? Will Ryder and his men get away with the money and if so, how will they get out of the subway without being caught? Will Garber solve his problems? All the questions are answered with lots of tension and some yelling. Bad language doesn’t bother me when it fits the situation but when Ryder swears, and he does it a lot it, it seems forced and out of place. This remake is more violent but lacks the tension and imagination of the original.
